Since the start of this year, China's air purification industry has shown consistent growth, with new ventilation systems that combine air purification and air exchange becoming a major consumer trend. However, industry experts point out that no clear market leader has emerged yet, resulting in intense competition. The lack of standardized regulations and norms for fresh air purification systems remains a challenge, making it essential for leading companies to step up and guide the industry forward.
Weiersen Technology, a high-tech enterprise specializing in smart control solutions for green buildings, recently introduced two new series of indoor fresh air purification products: the hidden intelligent fresh air purification unit and the wall-mounted intelligent fresh air purification unit. Their proprietary "ECO" and "IAQR" control systems have drawn significant attention from the market. The "ECO" system automatically selects the optimal operating mode and adjusts wind speed based on indoor pollutants like PM2.5, CO2, and TVOC. Meanwhile, the "IAQR" system uses a wireless Wi-Fi module to enable remote monitoring of device performance and real-time feedback on air quality improvements.
Despite the rapid development of the industry, some concerns remain. Experts suggest that establishing new national standards is crucial to regulating product quality and raising entry barriers. Cui Gang, Chairman of Henan Wilson Technology, emphasized that while the market is growing fast, there is still a lack of strong brand leadership and clear industry guidelines. He believes that only through the emergence of benchmark enterprises can the sector move toward a more structured and sustainable future.
According to reports, China's air purifier market saw 5.77 million units sold in 2016, representing a 17.7% annual increase. In the first quarter of 2017, sales surged by 47% year-on-year. From 2011 to 2016, the industry experienced an average annual growth rate of 42.8% in sales volume and 43.1% in revenue. As living standards improve, people are increasingly focused on environmental quality and health, driving demand for better air purification solutions.
With rising air pollution incidents, public awareness of air quality has grown significantly. Fresh air systems that combine purification and ventilation are now seen as a new consumer necessity, potentially becoming the sixth major household appliance after TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and range hoods. Industry analysts predict a multi-billion-dollar market potential in the future, signaling a shift from the "air purifier 1.0" era to the "air purifier 2.0" era, which integrates purification with fresh air exchange.
Although China's air purifier market is still in its early stages, its long-term growth prospects are promising. Jin Yongsheng, Sales Director at AAF Greater China, noted that environmental challenges have created new opportunities for the industry. With rising purchasing power, increasing consumer awareness of air health, and lower penetration rates compared to the U.S., the Chinese market has vast untapped potential. If current trends continue, the market could eventually reach over 90 million units.
As these systems become more common in homes, consumers are becoming more informed about their benefits. Brand reputation, technological innovation, and after-sales service are now key factors influencing purchase decisions. Cui Gang believes that China already has a comprehensive air purifier product and brand system, and the market is transitioning from quantity to quality. With improved standards and stronger competition, the industry will gradually become more regulated, allowing truly innovative and capable companies to thrive and drive healthier, more sustainable growth.
