CJ 2016 | No VR wireless solution for backpacks, are you ready?

When I first met Archiact’s team in Vancouver last year, Xiao Bian was still addicted to their previously developed VR mobile game “Lamper VR”. Then they released new ones in succession. Whether on Gear VR or Google Play, they won praises from many players. And it has a high download volume. This year it also obtained investment in mutual entertainment.

However, during ChinaJoy, they exhibited a set of wireless and backpack-free VR offline experience programs. With all kinds of curiosity and questions, Xiaobian chatted with the person in charge in China, and experienced the experience on the spot. device of.

VR offline market is subdivided, there is a demand

In earlier media reports, Frank, the founder of Archiact, stated that he would set up a distribution in China and be responsible for business operations. It can be seen at that time that there was an idea under the development line. For the real reason, co-founder Derek told Xiao Bian, “The entire VR market has relatively large online moves, but the focus of profitability is offline.” They hope that by building more sophisticated solutions, including hardware and software, the development line The potential of the business, and "the offline market begins to subdivide."

However, to maintain the offline experience store business, the need for continuous traffic, this may be some of the current experience of the experience shop, Derek believes that the flow of people is not high, because "Last year, offline experience shopkeeper push hardware, content has not followed On the whole, the overall experience is not very good. And we will focus on the fine content this year to promote the offline."

At the same time, Huang Zhihua, head of the China region, believes that the offline experience stores are in demand. "VR is only part of the offline experience market, but it can bring strong feelings and it will definitely become mainstream."

As a result, they launched the Matrix battle to create a VR offline experience brand. It is understood that the HTC Vive double plan has been introduced, and the multi-person large space experience plan will be launched in the second half of the year.

It is important for the game to catch users in a short period of time

The live experience is this helmet and handle

In addition to providing offline solutions for the B-side, Archiact not only develops its own game content, but is also responsible for distribution, which allows them to have a certain amount of games in terms of offline content. But when it comes to the difference between offline and mobile VR game development, Derek laughs

" Very different. Because of the limitations of the offline experience time, we have to give players a particularly good experience within a few minutes. At least for a short time, after the player has played, they want to play for the second time or recommend a friend to play. The offline experience is both cool and interactive, or multiplayer, and it's the same as developing a single-player game for the mobile terminal or for the big three. If you can't catch the user in a few minutes, you can This user will be lost."

As for the game's R&D or update cycle, they did not specify the time, but expressed the need to strike a balance between "time, investment, and market."

"The market or the player is always comparative, because this year's good game is not necessarily good next year. The player played a symbolic game and he will use this to measure all other games."

In fact, when we learn that a game team is going to do offline business, Xiao Bian's reaction is: Is the previous game content not profitable?

“Paid on Gear VR is OK, and the game downloads on Goggle Play are also very high, but it is not possible to pay for Android users, and there is no content payment system, so the payment plan is not opened.”

Derek was helpless.

At present, there are more than 60 people in Archiact's Vancouver team responsible for content research and development. The Chinese team has more than 20 people in charge of operations. In addition to mobile VR game development, they are also developing other game content for the Big Three.

The VRcade wireless solution was amazing

Time Zombies game screen

CJ live Xiaobian also personally experienced their space wireless tracking solution. The provider of this solution is the VRcade solution developed by VRstudios in the United States. According to its official website, VRcade includes a wireless transmission helmet, motion capture system, and real-time 3D engine. The minimum supportable range is 4.5x4.5 meters, which can be expanded indefinitely.

The space for Xiaobian's experience on that day was about 30 square meters. There were 12 cameras on four walls, and the helmet and the gun-shaped handle had marking points. The important thing is that there are no cables on the helmet that are connected to the computer and there are no backpacks. The content of the experience is a zombie game named "Time Zombies". They also have video introductions on their official website. In fact, although the physical space is 30 square meters, in the game you will see a virtual white grid, telling you the range of movement, or feeling slightly limited.

Because there is no line, the body does not have to carry heavy equipment, will feel very relaxed, see the zombie in the game, you will not help but immediately rushed forward and shot. Moreover, the handle is also a gun in the game, the whole experience is very smooth, there is almost no delay, did not feel dizzy, after the game is over, some of them are still full of ideas.

Somewhat unfortunately, due to the loud sounds in the venue, the walls of the rooms were affected, affecting the cameras hanging on the walls, the game screens appearing shaking, the level of zombie sophistication, and the gameplay can be improved. However, there is no cable and the experience of carrying a backpack is indeed impressive.

Nomad wireless helmet prototype

Nomad’s demo video on the official website looks good

Derek said that the device is mainly aimed at customers with high requirements for space tracking accuracy. They also have a solution that uses the Nomad wireless helmet provided by Wavesine and uses wireless transmission technology without cables. Small LED lights are placed on the helmet and handle, and active motion capture is used. The accuracy may not be as high as VRcade, but the cost will be lower. This program has not been debugged well, so the scene Xiaobian did not experience, for the time being can not see the effect, but try to wear a Nomad helmet, feeling lighter.

VRcade's reputation for this wireless solution is relatively large. It was previously reported by media that they have established cooperation with various amusement parks. After this personal experience, Xiaobian personally looks forward to it and can bring surprises to the offline experience.
