62928 will be out of date! MStar pushes new flagship 6A938 TV chip

Behind the smart TV sales, the smart TV chip industry seems to be far less competitive than the mobile phone industry. Someone once thought that the chip level of the smart TV industry lags far behind the mobile phone industry by 1-2 generations. As long as companies led by Qualcomm really begin to pay attention and enter this field, then the industry will soon have a monopoly similar to the mobile phone industry. .

However, people who truly understand this industry do not agree with this view. Recently, MStar Morningstar Semiconductor announced that it will begin to supply terminal manufacturers with a new generation of smart TV flagship chip - Aurora 6A938. This chip not only has a significant increase in speed, picture quality, sound quality and functionality than the previous 6A928, and it also has a high-class class of companies. Also formed a strong technical barrier,

The Aurora 6A938 is by far the first solution in the smart TV industry to use the ARM Cortex-A72 core. Its improvement in operating speed, GPU, sound quality and features are as follows:

In terms of operating speed, based on the Cortex-A72 core, with the quad-core big Little architecture, and in conjunction with TV usage scenarios, MStar has developed a Core Turbo true multi-core drive engine. The Aurora 6A938 uses this engine to quickly drive multi-core work. It provides powerful computing capabilities for TVs and ensures that TVs can also experience extreme speeds in many major application scenarios.

In addition to the powerful CPU, the GPU Aurora 6A938 is also outstanding. It uses the Mali T800 series T820 which supports the 4K resolution. In game interaction tests, the actual frame rate can reach 60fps. In terms of memory, the DDR4 technology has a 96-bit width and supports a memory clock frequency of 2.4 GHz. The total bandwidth of 6 DDR4 chips can reach 28.8 Gbps, providing high-speed bandwidth protection for content processing and graphics operations of 4K smart TVs.

In tests conducted by third-party evaluation agencies such as AnTutu, the Aurora 6A938 achieved high scores of 65,000 points, a huge improvement in CPU performance, and a total score of approximately 40%.

In terms of picture quality, MStar has developed a new generation of image quality engine, “4K enamel engine”, which is also equipped with the Aurora 6A938, in view of the low frame rate, high noise, and light color in OTT viewing. Engine, De-Judder, De-Noise, Advance-Color, 120Hz 4K MEMC, 60Hz 4K MEMC, HDR, Dolby Vision and HDR10 The addition of this technology also effectively enhances the chip's strength in dynamic image processing.

Sound quality, Aurora 6A938 built a number of dedicated audio processing CPU and high-frequency DSP digital processor, providing a powerful audio processing power, while integrating a number of well-known third-party audio technologies such as Dolby AC4/Dolby ATMOS/DTS, Create better sound quality for your TV.

In terms of function, Aurora 6A938 has super 4K decoding capability, supports mainstream HEVC/VP9/H264 4K2K@60Hz 10bit decoding, the system supports the latest Android M system and Android TV, digital TV support includes DVB-T2/S2 , ATSC, ISDB, DTMB and other global digital television system demodulation.

Although last year some companies launched smart TVs equipped with Qualcomm plans and featured high-end images, MStar officials said that when Qualcomm asked questions about NetEase appliances, even if Qualcomm entered the industry in large numbers, it would be difficult to replicate its success in the mobile phone field. The main reason is that smart TV terminals require audio and video decoding capabilities, various standard signal modulation capabilities, and the performance of interface circuits. Qualcomm’s strength lies in the baseband of mobile phones, but it has not accumulated in the television field, so even if it has a more advanced The core speed and GPU capabilities will not bring real improvement to the TV application scene.

It is reported that MStar's 6A928 program is currently the most widely used in the smart TV industry, a SoC, including music, millet, PPTV, micro whale and the main products of traditional TV companies are mostly using this SoC. The 6A938 plan is expected to be in volume production in the second quarter of this year. It is believed that when TV brands, especially Internet brands, release new products, they will use this program as a selling point.
