TV sales fell nearly 7% in the market

On December 17, at the 10th China Flat Panel TV Industry Conference, the “2014 China Flat Panel TV Consumption Status and 2015 Trend Forecast Report” was released. According to the report, this year's color TV market sales fell by nearly 7%, and the industry's growth rate may be zero next year.

According to the report, overall demand for the color TV market in China narrowed in 2014, and sales declined. Although sales in the second half of the year have rebounded from the first half of the year, they still cannot reverse the industry's first negative growth. According to research data from the Consumer Electronics Research Office of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, in the second half of 2014, the retail volume of flat-panel TVs was approximately 22 million units, and the annual sales volume was 42 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7%. It is expected that the demand for China's flat-panel TV market will continue to remain at around 42 million units in 2015, maintaining zero growth, and the entire TV market will enter an adjustment period.

Lu Jiebo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that color TV manufacturers must not only face external pressures such as the slowdown in macroeconomic growth and insufficient consumer demand, but also the homogeneity of products, rising costs in all aspects of the industrial chain, and core technological utterances. Inadequate rights, shortened product life cycle, and lag in the transformation and upgrading of the industry itself.

The sales volume of the color TV market declined, and local technological evolution became even more prominent. 4K popularity became the biggest attraction this year. The report estimates that sales of 4K Ultra HD in 2014 will be about 8 million units, accounting for nearly 20% of the total. With the further improvement of the industrial chain and the increasingly mature market, 4K TV will enter the popularization and normalization development in 2015, and the 4K product consumption ratio is expected to reach 40%.

In the context of the overall “touch network” of the home appliance market, in 2014, the share of the home network purchase market continued to expand. According to data from third-party authoritative research, from January to October 2014, the total retail sales of color cables reached 5.73 million units, an increase of 77% year-on-year, accounting for 16% of the total sales of color TVs. It is estimated that in 2015, the market share of flat-panel TVs will reach 20%.
