On December 7, Shenzhen's second approved “973 Project†“Study on Key Basic Issues in High-Performance LED Manufacturing and Equipment†was officially launched at the Tsinghua University Research Institute in Shenzhen. According to industry insiders, the project is located in Guangdong, which is of great significance for Guangdong Province to occupy the future industrial commanding heights and support and promote the development of LED industry.
Shenzhen Tsinghua University Research Institute as the first undertaking unit of “Research on Key Basic Issues in High-Performance LED Manufacturing and Equipment†is the second approved project in Shenzhen after the successful application of the Shenzhen Advanced Technology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. The 973 Project marks the continuous enhancement of the basic research level in Shenzhen.
It is understood that Guangdong is an important gathering place for China's LED industry, accounting for a considerable proportion in the country. Since 2008, Guangdong's LED industry output value has ranked first in the country. This year's output value is expected to reach 150 billion yuan, accounting for 70% of the country. In the near future, it will move toward the goal of 1 trillion yuan. Statistics from the Shenzhen Science, Industry and Trade Committee and the LED Industry Standards Alliance show that the output value of the LED industry in Shenzhen has exceeded 40 billion yuan last year and more than 1,100 related companies. Among the more than ten listed LED companies in the country, Shenzhen accounted for five.
