Yahoo's 200 million user data illegally peddled by hackers: only sells for 1824 US dollars

According to itworld reports, a group of hackers recently peddled Yahoo's 200 million user login information on the dark Internet.

The Yahoo user data was sold on a dark network this time. It is a hacker team from Russia named Peace-of-Mind (Peace for short). It has previously sold user information of LinkedIn and MySpace.

Maybe Yahoo's users should really change their passwords. As Peace announced that they had stolen 200 million of Yahoo's user data, it was being sold on a dark network. The dark trading market, called "The Real Deal," has gradually surfaced. On this site, people can carry out some illegal Internet transactions and buy some "illegal items", such as the Yahoo user data. As long as 3 bitcoins or 1824 dollars are spent, anyone can get the 200 million user information of Yahoo. However, this data is likely to be old data since 2012.

According to the sample provided by Peace, the leaked data includes all users' user names, MD5 passwords, and birth dates. Some data actually include the user's backup email address, nationality, and zip code.

Since the login password is encrypted by MD5, Yahoo users are currently facing a lot of annoyance. Because the MD5 password can be quickly decrypted, this means that the Yahoo user's login password is actually exposed in clear text.

In response, the foreign media company Softpedia contacted Yahoo! They did not acknowledge the incident and said the company is still investigating. The following is a statement from Yahoo in the email:

"Recently, we learned that Darknet is selling our user data. We have always been committed to protecting the information security of our users. Our company takes this incident very seriously. Our security team is verifying and confirming the facts. Yahoo has been trying its best. Protect user's safety, and always encourage users to use strong security passwords or use Yahoo Account Key, and encourage users to use different passwords on different platforms.

Last week, Verizon acquired Yahoo for $4.8 billion. No one can know exactly what the Verizon Yahoo project is. Peace’s idea is to make extra money before the Yahoo user account loses more value, just in case Verizon discards the data or incorporates it into other services.

IDG News Service stated that it had tried using several publicly sold e-mail logins to test it and found that Yahoo!'s official admits (can be used). However, other email addresses have been revoked.

In fact, as early as 2012, Yahoo was publicly peddled by users of hacked data. The user data that was leaked at that time had 450,000 user information, which was a team of hackers named D33ds. However, Yahoo immediately said that most of the passwords sold are invalid.

The news that 200 million user data was peddled, although Yahoo did not explicitly acknowledge it, did not deny it. Regardless, it is time for the user to change the password.
