Different from the computer, the human brain is good at reviewing and analyzing. The computer is good at processing large amounts of data. The human brain has higher efficiency and accomplishes similar cognitive tasks. The computer needs 100 million times more energy than the human brain.
This is also the reason why researchers and companies are interested in mimicking the brain structure of human brains - also known as "neural computing." IBM's TrueNorth is such a chip that integrates 4096 computer cores and supports about 1 million digitized brain cells and 256 million connections. The transmission of information along these connections is similar to the transmission of nerve synapses along humans.
Eric Ryu, vice president of the Samsung Institute of Advanced Technology, demonstrated the use of TrueNorth to help computers better recognize gestures, and energy consumption is only one-tenth that of ordinary mobile phones. Samsung is not the first company to use the TrueNorth chip, although this chip was manufactured by it. The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has been using TrueNorth for cybersecurity research. The US Air Force is using it to discover anomalies in the video to develop smarter drones.
Samsung has integrated TrueNorth in its Dynamic Vision Sensor, which uses the chip to recognize images at a rate of 2000 frames per second. This speed is suitable for generating 3D maps, driverless technologies, and controlling computers with gestures.
Eric Long has attended a meeting of an IBM research laboratory and demonstrated the use of gestures to control television technology.
