Liu Wenbo: It is not advisable for Chinese companies to fight at low prices

Liu Wenbo, Vice President of Greater China Region of Roland Berger Management Consulting Company, said in the afternoon of September 22 that in the new energy field, it is not desirable for Chinese companies to adopt low-cost fights in domestic and international markets.

Liu Wenbo expressed the above when he accepted an exclusive interview after attending the second China-Arab Economic and Trade Forum and Energy Cooperation Subcommittee.

He believes that the nuclear crisis in Japan has a huge impact on the international nuclear power industry, but nuclear power is an energy option that should not be abandoned. "First, we must eliminate one misunderstanding. The second-generation and third-generation technology of China's nuclear power plants is superior to the second-generation technology of the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Second, compared with the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the service time of Chinese nuclear power plants is much shorter. Finally, each time After the nuclear power accident, the world's nuclear power industry will have a temporary stagnation, but the overall trend is upward."

Liu Wenbo pointed out that the Japanese nuclear crisis will delay the pace of China's nuclear power construction in a short period of time. During this period, efforts will be made to develop the “all-round” power resource of hydropower.

Liu Wenbo acknowledged that the stagnation of nuclear power does provide opportunities for wind power and photovoltaics, and as the technology matures, the market share will gradually increase, and the costs of wind power and optoelectronics will also decrease. However, the two are not stable. Sex is still the bottleneck of its continued development.

At the same time, he put forward new insights into the definition and classification of green technology and circular economy. “There should be six categories: first, environmentally friendly power generation, such as nuclear power, wind power, photovoltaics, and smart grids; second, sustainable transportation, such as smart trams and electric vehicles; third, energy efficiency; and fourth, raw materials. Use efficiency, such as the use of new materials to produce aircraft can reduce weight and reduce fuel use. Fifth, waste utilization. Sixth, sustainable use of water resources."

For the development strategies of Chinese energy companies, especially new energy companies, Liu Wenbo reminds them that “Chinese companies have a problem that does not have a win-win concept. Competition in the domestic and international markets is a brutal contest. At low prices, they will suffer both losses.” On the other hand, in South Korea, companies formed a consortium that defeated such powerful rivals as Areva, Toshiba and Siemens and eventually won the Saudi nuclear power project, which ultimately benefited them.
