The industrial standard of Korea is equivalent to the "JIS standard" of Japan. After entering 2009, the KS standard has newly defined LED lighting safety and performance issues. For example, if it is a converter built-in type LED lamp, the specification must be 220V, 60Hz, or 60W or less.
The KS certification standard was originally introduced by the Korea Ministry of Knowledge and Technology's Technical Standards Institute in 1963. This time, some amendments were made, such as the addition of LED lighting. 2009 is a revision of the KS certification standard after 46 years.
The KS certification standard is the abbreviation of Korean Industrial Standards. It is an industrial product standard specification established according to the Industrial Standardization Law, which is designed to improve and maintain the quality of Korean industrial products. This revision adds and deletes the types of products for quality management, modifies the review standards, and improves the certification system. In terms of target products, the newly added product categories include 48 products from cutting-edge industries such as LEDs, rechargeable batteries, organic ELs, and display components. The KS certification standard is divided into 17 categories, using tokens from A to X. LED lighting is included in the motor (C) specification.

Standardization related to LED lighting is generally regulated in terms of both safety and performance. The KS certification standard incorporates the “safety requirements†and “performance requirements†into the same standard. Incidentally, Japan has developed JIS C 8154 "General Lighting LED Modules - Safety Performance Indicators". Currently, JIS C8156 "General Lighting Bulb-Type LED Lamps - Safety Performance Indicators" and JIS are being explored. C8155 "General Lighting LED Module - Performance Indicators" original case, the safety performance indicators and performance indicators were formulated separately. Therefore, the inclusion of safety and performance in the same standard by the KS certification standard is a major feature. The IEC has questions about the inclusion of safety and performance in the same standard. A member of the IEC said that “as a standard, its completion is low and not practicalâ€, it can be said that this is a standard that still has problems.
