Electromagnetic flowmeter meets the requirements of measurement - Database & Sql Blog Articles

The electromagnetic flowmeter is a device that measures flow based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. One of its key advantages is the minimal pressure loss, allowing it to measure a wide range of flow rates. The ratio between the maximum and minimum measurable flow is typically 20:1 or higher. It can be used in industrial pipelines with diameters up to 3 meters, and its output signal is linearly proportional to the flow rate, ensuring high accuracy. This type of flowmeter is suitable for measuring conductive fluids with a conductivity of at least 5μs/cm, including acids, alkalis, salt solutions, water, sewage, corrosive liquids, as well as slurries, mud, and pulp. However, it cannot measure the flow of gases, steam, or pure water. Due to these benefits, more and more companies are adopting electromagnetic flowmeters. But how to install them correctly, and what installation requirements should be followed to ensure better performance, accuracy, and safety? This is a crucial aspect that must not be overlooked. Proper installation of an electromagnetic flowmeter is essential. As we mentioned in our previous article on the Chengfeng Instrument website, correct installation significantly impacts the meter's performance. Here are some important considerations when installing an electromagnetic flowmeter: 1) The grounding point of both the sensor and the converter must be at the same electrical potential as the measured medium. 2) Ensure that the ground potential is zero to reduce external interference. Most industrial pipes are metal and already grounded, making this requirement relatively easy to meet. However, if there is significant electromagnetic interference, you may need to reset the grounding system. The grounding wire should be at least 5mm² in cross-section, and multi-strand copper wire can be used. Avoid connecting it to motors or shared grounding systems to prevent leakage current interference. 3) The sensor should be installed on a metal pipe where the inner wall has no insulating coating. 4) If the pipeline is made of plastic or has an insulating lining, a grounding ring, flange, or electrode must be installed at both ends of the sensor. A short tube is sufficient in such cases. 5) The fluid in the pipeline must have zero potential relative to the earth. Otherwise, the electromagnetic flowmeter will not function properly. By following these guidelines, you can ensure accurate and reliable measurements from your electromagnetic flowmeter, enhancing both its performance and longevity.
