Street lamp renovation: LED lights should make the application unit feel at ease

Last year, the street lamp in Chancheng, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, was replaced with a greener and more energy-saving LED street light. However, it triggered a controversy about "it should not change the LED street light".

However, traditional luminaires are also improving. In terms of light efficiency, some high-pressure nano lamps represented by Philips CosmoPolis can reach 120-130 lm/w, while current LED street lamps are generally 75-80 lm/w. No wonder some people say that LEDs are not energy efficient.

According to Liu Dinglin, executive deputy general manager of Sichuan Jiuzhou Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., the trend of replacing LED lights with high-voltage lamps is unchanged. However, at present, LED street lamp manufacturers should give their application units confidence and realistic data to make them convinced.

Reporter: As the person in charge of a large domestic LED manufacturer, in your opinion, which part of the LED street lamp is currently the most critical?

Liu Dinglin: We believe that the current street lights are still on the overall lighting. Now there is no problem with the industrialization of the chip, and the power supply is not a problem. The stability of the power supply will be solved quickly as long as the quantity is together. This problem is not core. The main problem is still to solve the light distribution and reliability, while achieving the requirements of street lamps as a whole.

It should be said that the LED street light should be an electronic product. Not a small factory can produce. This is also why we did experiments in the laboratory and our own demonstration roads in the past two years, and there is no reason to push them on a large scale. In Mianyang, we are very cautious. Five road demonstrations have been made, 5000 lights, we have to wait until more than half a year of testing, and then further promote.

Reporter: Why does Jiuzhou Optoelectronics adopt such a conservative approach?

Liu Dinglin: There are two things that are quite troublesome. The best LED fixtures for laboratory data can be 75-80 lm/w. The tests we conducted together with the Sichuan Provincial Quality Inspection Bureau and the Street Lights show that some high-standard high-pressure nano lamps can reach 120-130 lm/w. From the point of view of light efficiency, there is still a gap between LED street lights and high-voltage nano lamps. Secondly, it is the service life. The LED street light is well done overall and can guarantee 30,000 hours. In addition, the Philips CosmoPolis lamp can also be used for 30,000 hours.

Many streetlights clearly objected that LEDs do not save electricity and do not save energy. The luminous efficiency of LEDs per watt is only 80 lm, and the luminous efficiency per watt of high-voltage nano lamps is 120-130 lm. We can also refute him by saying that the 80lm can be fully utilized and the consumption is low. But in fact, the test illumination is still worse.

From the perspective of the entire line, we still have to work hard in these areas. As far as I know, including Philips will strive to adjust the color temperature and light distribution to a better state, but now there is a process.

Reporter: Listening to you, it seems that companies that do LED street lights have no confidence. Is this really the case?

Liu Dinglin: The trend of replacing LED lights with high-voltage lamps is not going to change. Now we have to give the application unit street lights a confidence and realistic data, so that they are convinced. We did two things in Mianyang to make them more recognized. The first is to let the people score the points at night and let the people make intuitive judgments. In the same section, one is a 250W high-voltage nano lamp, and the other is a 150W LED lamp. The results of the sample survey showed that the public indicated that they could accept LED street lights. The second is energy saving. Although the light effect is not the best, but through dimming, 50% in the middle of the night to achieve energy savings of more than 50%. By testing this data they gave them a lot of confidence. At the same time, we also solved the glare.

Reporter: In addition to giving confidence to street lamps, what other new ideas does Jiuzhou have in promoting LED street lights?

Liu Dinglin: In fact, the streetlights in many places face a big problem: management is very extensive. So I can't figure out how much electricity is used for each road. Of course, I can't calculate how much energy is saved. It is a few roads and a gate, can not tell which way to use which way. Therefore, we are looking for an investment company to do these things, that is, to change the contract energy management (EMC) model into a "build-transfer" (BT) model. When the government comes forward, it will turn EMC into the BT model, which may be faster.

At present, we are negotiating with the investment company to complete the demonstration in Mianyang, and then choose several places in Sichuan to do demonstrations to promote. In addition, we will also use the demonstration method, such as signing a 25 million LED lighting contract with Sichuan Neijiang, we will send it 1 million LED street lights.

It is particularly worth mentioning that Mianyang has very good conditions. The post-disaster reconstruction is LED street light from the beginning of design. Now the second ring road of Mianyang City is also the LED street light from the design and is directly included in the budget. Jiuzhou will definitely use this condition to achieve a certain scale of LED street lights.
