For safer, more comfortable and more environmentally friendly systems: Fujitsu has developed the new MB91770 series and MB91725 series of microcontrollers with built-in "FR81S" dedicated 32-bit high-performance CPU cores to control next-generation automotive systems. Dashboard control is the main application area of ​​the MB91770 series, while body control (air conditioning, BCM, etc.) is the main application area of ​​the MB91725 series.

The new built-in high-performance 32-bit CPU core "FR81S": This product uses the FR81S core to provide 30% or more processing performance over the traditional 32-bit "FR60" CPU core. The FR81S operates at 1.3 MIPS/MHz and is a microcontroller for automotive applications that offers extremely high processing performance. It also has a built-in single-precision floating-point arithmetic unit (FPU) that meets the requirements of image processing systems and systems that require floating-point operation, such as brake control. Although traditional products without FPU still require algorithms such as fixed-point operations, this product has hardware support, which simplifies software programs and improves computing performance.


Product appearance

CAN controller with 64 built-in message buffers: Recently, there are a large number of built-in ECUs in automotive CAN networks; their size has expanded with the number of nodes. Although the traditional 32-bit CAN microcontroller has 32 built-in message buffers, this product has 64 built-in message buffers to support systems with a large number of nodes. Also, it supports ver.2.0A/B as a CAN protocol and a bit rate of up to 1Mb/s.

A variety of peripheral functions can be connected via a switchable serial interface and LIN-UART: This product uses a built-in multi-function serial interface as a serial communication interface (2 channels in the MB91770 series and 4 channels in the MB91725 series) ). The versatile serial interface can be software switched to select UART, clock synchronous serial, LIN-UART and I2C for each channel. This provides flexibility in supporting communication specifications for external devices and increasing the freedom of system design. In addition to this versatile serial interface, this product has six channels of LIN-UART to allow communication with more control units.

Ability to extend the layout of the board

1. External bus interface terminal dedicated power supply: This product is equipped with an independent power supply for the external bus interface terminal. Therefore, there is no need to install a level shifter on the ECU board (previously connected to an external device with a different operating voltage in a conventional product using a single power supply, it is necessary to have a level shifter). Moreover, the external bus interface terminal has a power supply voltage ranging from 3.0V to 5.5V, so it can flexibly connect the unit memory, the image ASIC, and the like.

2. I/O redistribution function: The allocation and wiring of the peripheral units of the microcontroller is largely determined by the pin assignment of the microcontroller. To reduce the physical constraints imposed by pin assignments on the board layout, the product provides built-in I/O redistribution that allows software/programming to change I/O port assignments. Since the I/O redistribution function allows us to select the peripheral terminals that need to be used from the assigned terminals, the degree of freedom in board layout can be greatly improved.

Applications

1.MB91770 series (for dashboard applications)

Although there are many different types of dashboard indications in recent cars, those dashboard systems that process visual information need to pass the necessary driving information to the driver accurately and in a short period of time. The MB91770 series implements real-time processing of the system and has high processing performance of the FR81S core; it has built-in peripheral functions and is the best choice for instrument panel control using the STN method and LCD panel.

It has 6 channels of built-in stepper motor controller that can control the hands of speedometers, tachometers, etc. It also has a segment LCD controller for odometer indication (32 segments x 4com) and a sounder for generating a waveform that acts as a source of turn signal. The function of the sounder has been greatly improved compared to conventional products. Although the conventional sounder only has a fade-out function that can gradually reduce the volume with a volume change, the MB91770 series can reduce or increase the volume at a prescribed speed in addition to the fade-out effect. And, you can use the 16-bit resolution to achieve fine-tuning of the volume, resulting in a smoother sound.

2.MB91725 Series (for vehicle body control applications)

The air conditioning and BCM systems in the car are controlled by various switch inputs in the car and information from the built-in car sensors. Regardless of the weather conditions and driving conditions, air conditioning is required to maintain comfortable interior conditions. When the car is parked in the hot sun, the temperature inside the car is quickly reduced to a more comfortable level by performing optimal control, and the comfortable interior temperature is maintained based on information from each sensor. The BCM system enables centralized control of multiple body system ECUs such as doors, seats and combination switches. Manufacturers are also considering integrating ECU functions such as keyless entry.

The MB91725 series has a large number of built-in serial interfaces, so it can be connected to multiple ECUs using a CAN/LIN network. It also has multiple channels and A/D converters with timer function, enabling integration of various functions.

And, in addition to the program-oriented main flash memory, the MB91725 series also has a built-in flash memory for data. This allows a write/erase operation in the data-oriented flash memory during execution of the program from the program-oriented main flash memory; this can replace the E2PROM. This helps reduce the number of components on the ECU board.

Advantages of Data Flash: E2PROM is no longer needed, and board area can be reduced; data writing speed can be increased; data, programs, etc. are stored in the flash memory of the microcontroller, which helps prevent information leakage.

Development environment

This product uses an on-chip debugging method. In traditional products, debugging must be performed using the ICE main unit and the verification evaluation chip, and then the system evaluation is performed by using the device on the car. This product allows for unit system evaluation and vehicle evaluation using actual devices. And it uses a single-wire debug interface for automotive evaluation or compliance testing, and enables communication between small ICE main units and target boards up to 10 meters with universal coaxial cable. This simplifies vehicle evaluation that is difficult to achieve in routine.
