Infineon Technologies AG is expanding its 62mm IGBT module series, introducing new power modules designed to meet the rising demand for higher power density without increasing the package size. These modules leverage a larger chip footprint and an enhanced DCB (Direct Copper Bonded) substrate, which are key features of the mature 62mm package design. The 1200V blocking voltage module is ideal for applications such as frequency converters, solar inverters, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), while the 1700V version is tailored for medium-voltage inverters.
The 1200V module offers a rated current of up to 600A, and the 1700V variant can handle up to 500A, placing Infineon at a competitive advantage in this current range. The package uses an industry-standard substrate, ensuring compatibility with existing designs. For instance, when used in a frequency converter, it can boost output power by as much as 20%. These modules are built using IGBT 4 technology, a well-established and reliable solution known for its stability and performance.
In addition, two new power modules are available in a “common emitter†configuration, supporting the implementation of a three-level topology (NPC2). This makes them particularly effective in high-power applications like solar systems and UPS units, where efficiency and reliability are critical.
The new 62mm power module is now in full-scale production and also comes with pre-coated thermal interface materials (TIM) for easier integration. Infineon also provides 34mm and 50mm thyristor and rectifier diode modules featuring advanced soldering technology, ensuring seamless compatibility with the new 62mm IGBT modules.
