MIPS-based SoC dominates the ADAS system

ImaginaTIon has a strong presence in the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) market, and most of the world's ADAS solutions currently use Mobileye's MIPS-based SoC. In addition, ImaginaTIon's PowerVR GPU technology has been used by leading automotive chip makers such as Renesas and TI to develop dashboards and infotainment solutions. ImaginaTIon's Ensigma wireless connectivity technology is the industry standard for DAB automotive radio solutions. Imagination's IP portfolio has been adopted by more than 20 leading automakers including Audi, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Mitsubishi, Opel, Peugeot, Tesla, Volvo and more.

Imagination CEO Hossein Yassaie said: "The automotive industry is facing an important turning point. ADAS and driverless cars are driving the growth of automotive electronics in many areas, including dashboards, infotainment systems and smart cameras. Imagination is at advanced technology. The forefront of development, driving advances in automotive applications with our wide range of solutions. Our solutions include scalable PowerVR GPUs that support hardware virtualization technology for reliability and high performance processing for computing and vision applications; multi-threading The MIPS CPU core enables instant computing and efficiency as well as secure and reliable hardware virtualization technology; and Ensigma's global solution for multi-standard radio and connectivity technologies."

Renesas recently released the new R-Car H3 SoC, which features a high-end PowerVR GX6650 GPU with 192 ALU cores and supports hardware virtualization technology that meets state-of-the-art specifications. The R-Car H3 chip is the first member of the third-generation R-Car family, dramatically improving cognitive computing and human-machine interface (HMI) computing capabilities for developing advanced driver support systems and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system.

Masahiro Suzuki, vice president and head of automotive information systems business at Renesas, said: "Because the amount of external data transmitted by the current IVI system has increased significantly, HMI computing is required to handle these huge amounts of data instantly and correctly. The PowerVR GX6650 is R-Car. H3's 3D graphics engine has nearly three times the shader computing performance compared to the R-Car H2, providing reliable information for driving at the right time. R-Car H3's outstanding performance and power consumption make it an excellent graphics Design is possible to implement advanced applications with rich HMI."

Earlier this year, Mobileye released the latest EyeQ4 chip, which uses the MIPS multi-core architecture and is designed for computer vision processing required for ADAS applications such as collision detection and dodging. EyeQ4 uses MIPS I-class's multi-threading technology and M-class's efficiency advantages to achieve superior performance with ultra-low power consumption.

Elchanan Rushinek, senior vice president of Mobileye Engineering, said: "Mobileye's ADAS and driverless leading solutions continue to break the limits of technological innovation. Our vision processors deliver unparalleled computing power in a very low power budget, mainly Thanks to our wide range of algorithms and an excellent global video database for driving/unat system for single/multi-cameras, and the support of Mobileye's special vision accelerator and Imagination's MIPS CPU for ultra-efficient efficiency Instant processing and control. The MIPS IO Coherence Unit (IOCU) features provide significant differentiation advantages for applications such as ADAS that require multiple accelerators to be managed by CPU and consistency. Imagination's multi-threaded MIPS CPU has been Help us achieve significant performance improvements as we launch each generation of EyeQ SoCs."
