ADI's ADP1650 is a small, high-efficiency white flash driver for high-pixel camera phones that improves picture and video quality in low-light environments. The device integrates a programmable 1.5MHz or 3.0MHz synchronous inductive boost converter, an I2C-compatible interface, and a 1500mA current source. The high switching frequency ensures the use of a tiny, low-cost 1μH power inductor with a thickness of 1mm. The current source allows the LED cathode to be grounded for thermal enhancement, low EMI and compact routing.
The LED driver achieves high efficiency over the entire battery voltage range. At the time of flashing, maximization from input power to LED power conversion ratio and minimization of battery current are achieved. The programmable DC battery current limit maximizes LED current over a safe range and can be used for all LED VF and battery voltage conditions.

Two independent TxMASK inputs quickly reduce flash LED current and battery current as the power amplifier current surges. The I2C-compatible interface sets the timer, current, and status bit readback for operational monitoring and safety control.
The ADP1650 is available in a 12-bump, 0.5mm pitch-pitch package and operates over a junction temperature of +125°C at 40°C.
