U.S. Construction Electrical Contractors Consider LED Alternative Feasibility

A survey of 700 building electrical contractors published in the American Electrical Contractor magazine showed that most contractors believe that LED is now ready to replace incandescent and fluorescent lamps and will be ready for the fall of 2012. Complete preparation. The survey was conducted by Renaissance Research & Consulting in the fall of 2010. Participants included residential construction contractors, project contractors for commercial/industrial/institutional (CII) and non-construction project contractors.

Electrical contractors may face a specification and requirements for installing LED lighting in an appropriate situation in the future, rather than installing LED lighting as a special case.

The Electrical Contractor magazine was sponsored by the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the editor-in-chief of the magazine John Maisel said: “There are many reports on the LED market in our magazine, such as the LED market is growing at a rate of more than 30% per year. According to the report, the more you read as a reader of a building's electrical contractors, the more you know and the more likely you are to recommend this lighting to consumers. There are more than 85,000 construction electrical contractors in the United States.

According to the survey, 33% of construction electrical contractors said that LED is ready to replace incandescent lamps, 23% of respondents said that LED will be ready to replace compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and 19% of respondents The person indicates that the LED will replace the fluorescent lamp.

Another 33% of respondents believe that LED will be prepared to replace these traditional light sources within the next two years. The remaining respondents indicated that LED lighting will be feasible later or do not know whether LED is feasible or not. Among these respondents who believe that LED is not feasible, 19% of respondents indicated that high cost is a factor. 10% mentioned that LEDs need to improve performance.

Lighting is an inherent part of building electrical work. Ninety-seven percent of respondents indicated that they will include indoor or outdoor lighting at work, 95% of jobs will include lamps, 85% will include ballasts, and 93% of respondents will include lighting control systems at work.

45% ~ 60% of the construction electrical contractors will perform all lighting work functions, including purchase, standardization and installation of lighting products, and 90% of contractors will implement some lighting projects. Most types of lamps used in construction projects are fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps, while LEDs are used the least.
