Infineon launches certified FlexRay transceivers with ESD protection for in-vehicle communications

Neubiberg , Germany, June 25, 2013 -Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) launched its first FlexRay â„¢ transceiver, further expanding the lineup of LIN and CAN automotive communications IC products. The new TLE9221SX fully complies with the latest FlexRay electrical physical layer specification version 3.0.1. It can achieve data rates up to 10Mb / s for in-vehicle communications, and has first-class ESD protection performance of +/- 10kV. As an interface between the communication controller unit and the bus line, the TLE9221SX transceiver is suitable for suspension and chassis control applications as well as electric power steering, engine and transmission control units.

With the steady growth of data exchange between modern automotive electronic control units (ECUs), the in-vehicle network architecture has become more and more complex. Multiple network interfaces that support different operating requirements are now common: LIN bus networks handle low-speed data exchange up to 20kb / s; CAN bus networks handle medium-speed data exchange up to 1Mbit / s. For automotive network architecture applications that require extremely fast data transmission rates, or even real-time data transmission or fail-safe data transmission, today's vehicle manufacturers use the FlexRay bus.

"A current significant development trend is that the FlexRay bus extends from chassis control and body gateway applications to the powertrain field, including engine and gearbox control." Vice President of Infineon Technologies AG and General Manager of the Standard Power Division of the Automotive Electronics Frank Schwertlein pointed out, "The fully certified FlexRay transceiver launched by Infineon has extremely high robustness and first-class ESD protection performance. . "

Highlights of the TLE9221SX FlexRay transceiver

TLE9221SX fully complies with the latest FlexRay electrical physical layer specification version 3.0.1 and is suitable for time-triggered networks with data transmission rates up to 10Mb / s. It has very low electromagnetic emissions (EME), so it supports large networks and complex bus topologies. It is also optimized and has strong electromagnetic immunity. It has passed the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test of Ingenieurbüro für industrielle Elektrotechnik / Elektronik, an internationally renowned independent automotive transceiver product certification testing agency. In addition, TLE9221SX has outstanding ESD protection performance (+/- 10kV / HBM), which complies with IEC61000-4-2 standard.

TLE9221SX meets the latest version of the German OEM hardware requirements specification, so it is pin and board space compatible with other FlexRay transceivers on the market. The 16-pin TLE9221SX can be easily integrated into existing designs because it can be mounted on the 20-pin FlexRay transceiver board location. Its bus pins implement short-circuit protection for positive and negative battery voltage levels. In addition, this device also has over-temperature protection, including integrated thermal shutdown.

Availability and packaging

FlexRay transceiver TLE9221SX is now in mass production. These devices are available in RoHS compliant PG-SSOP-16 package. Models with 14-pin PG-TSSOP packages are scheduled to be available at the end of 2014.
