Recently, Honda has begun to deliver its first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle Clarity to consumers. The car, released a year ago, is Honda’s first fuel cell vehicle. Although it was delivered as early as March of this year, it was aimed at government-level customers, and now it has finally arrived in the hands of ordinary consumers. It is reported that six car owners have become the lucky ones. In the beginning, Honda only intended to supply the fuel cell vehicle to the government or institutions, but later, they found that this environmentally friendly car performed very well on the road, so they decided to change the development strategy.
It is understood that Clarity is driven solely by hydrogen energy, and its final emission products are only environmentally friendly water. But while this technology has considerable ecological benefits, it also means that the supporting infrastructure has to keep up. Unlike gasoline refueling stations that are already ubiquitous and power charging stations that are beginning to gain popularity, hydrogen fuel supply stations are still scarce. In California, there are currently only about 70 hydrogen fuel supply stations.
Obviously, Honda sees Toyota's Mirai as a competitor to Clarity. It is reported that the car has been put on the market in 2015. Like Toyota, Honda only supplies Clarity in areas with hydrogen fuel supply stations. Currently, Southern California dealers have 6 Clarity, 5 in the Bay Area, and 1 in Sacramento.
What's more, this car is not for sale, only the rental service is provided - a monthly fee of 369 US dollars, a three-year contract is required. According to Honda's own data and EPA tests, Clarity can travel up to 366 miles, fuel consumption of 68MPGe, and 3 to 5 minutes of hydrogen energy.
