The world’s top 10 chip buyers consume 34.7% of chips

According to Gartner's statistics, the world’s top ten semiconductor buyers headed by HP spent a total of 104.3 billion US dollars in semiconductor chips in 2010, accounting for 34.7% of the market share.

Gartner believes that global semiconductor sales in 2010 were US$303.0 billion, an increase of 33.7% compared to 2009.

Eight of the top 10 buyers in 2009 were still in the top 10 of 2010. Three of them were from the United States. Others were from the Asia Pacific region and Japan. Nokia was the only manufacturer from Europe.

It is the mobile PC, smart phone and LCDTV market that promote high growth in 2010. Among them, PC suppliers include HP, Apple, Dell and Lenovo. Of particular interest is the dramatic growth in the mobile PC market and the successful breakthrough of Samsung Electronics in smart phones, and Nokia seems to be in trouble. Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic would like to thank LCDTV for its growth. These companies have new ideas in their designs.

As a representative of the new generation of vertical integration companies, Apple provides hardware, software and services. The products include PCs, smart phones and tablet computers. The production of these products is outsourced to OEMs. Although Apple's TV business is still small, Apple is actively investing in the development of IPTV, set-top boxes and so on. Another Google is also developing its TV market platform. Gartner believes that TV service platform market will have high growth in the next few years.

Masatsune Yamaji, a senior analyst at Gartner, believes that in terms of total market volume, the Asia-Pacific region, especially China, offers the largest market opportunities for various types of devices.
