Texas Instruments (TI) released a single-chip millimeter-wave radar solution 1 year ago. This low-cost radar platform includes: 1. AWR1642 (Figure 2) includes the front section of the radar, which can be controlled using the C674x digital signal processor (DSP) on the motherboard. In addition, the ARM Cortex-R4F can control communication. This configuration allows the digital signal processor to control and process the radar input/output in real time. At the same time, the ARM processor can control the processing results.

Digital signal processing software can remove cluttered data and analyze the surrounding environment of the vehicle to generate an object presence heat map (Figure 4). The system can also detect the characteristics of objects in the area around the sensor.
