Cree (NASDAQ: CREE) recently announced a major breakthrough in the field of LED devices, introducing a revolutionary NX technology platform. The platform will provide strong technical support for the innovative development of next-generation lighting-grade LEDs. Based on the NX technology platform, the Extreme Density (XD) LED series has a lumen density four times higher than that of Cree's existing high-power LEDs.

This new technology platform will bring more possibilities to the innovative new design of lighting systems, and can break through some limitations of existing lighting applications, and play more advantages in such areas as color mixing, directional lighting, industrial lighting, etc. .

The new NX technology platform reflects the advancement of many devices and technologies, including new Dmax LED chips, more efficient phosphor systems, new package designs and a more streamlined production process.

The XLamp XD16 LED will be the first in an ultra-high-density XD LED series that delivers breakthrough lumen densities of up to 264 lm/mm2, which is 50% higher than current highest lumen density LEDs. XLamp XD16 LEDs are optimized for high lumen output and high light effects for streetlights, high ceiling lights, and will provide higher performance and better optical control.

At the same time, ceramic-based XD16 LEDs can easily meet the challenges of assembly, thermal design, optical design, and reliability faced by other competitive LED technology platforms.

XLamp XD16 LED engineering samples are available at the end of the spring and are available for volume production in late summer.
