Singapore will recruit iPad 2 for recruits Singapore’s Ministry of National Defense announced on Monday that for recruits recruited in November of this year, each person will be equipped with an Apple iPad 2 tablet.

Singapore’s Ministry of National Defense said that the first batch of iPad 2 released for recruits is about 8,000, and plans to release such products to other soldiers during the next year. Currently the lowest-configured iPad 2 is priced at S$668 (US$538) in the Singapore market.

Neo Kian Hong, chief of staff of the Singapore Armed Forces, said that the release of the iPad 2 to recruits will enable the Singaporean army to give full play to the country’s young people's advantage of mastering advanced technology. Singapore’s “The Straits Times” reported that the Singapore Ministry of Defense will set up a “LEARNet” web platform for the iPad 2 users of the military so that they can upload various types of pictures and video content to the platform.

In addition, Singaporean soldiers can use their iPad 2 to interact with their respective superior commanders. The Singapore Armed Forces will work with a private contractor to provide an application to the aforementioned soldier iPad 2 user.
