Renesas today announced the availability of the R2S15500SP audio multiplex decoder chip for the NICAM*1/A2*2 audio multiplexing system for European and Asian television broadcasts. Sample offerings will begin in Japan in December 2006.The R2S15500SP can convert an audio multiplexed audio SIF (acoustic intermediate frequency) signal from a tuner into digital data for processing and output a demodulated audio signal using an A/D converter.
The R2S15500SP has the following main features:
(1) Support for audio multiplexing in Europe and Asia The R2S15500SP supports NICAM/A2/FM monaural/AM monaural audio multiplexed signals to help solve the problem of audio multiplexed broadcasting in various regions of Europe and Asia. Tune, such as stereo and bilingual broadcasts.
(2) Small, low pin count package The device is available in a small 24-lead SSOP package to reduce board area. This package is also suitable for tuner components and products that require a small mounting area.
