NXP solid state lighting IC UBA3001 for camera phone LED flash drive

NXP Semiconductors (formerly Philips Semiconductors) recently introduced the NXP Solid State Lighting (SSL) IC portfolio and the first product in this new field, the NXP UBA3001, an efficient camera phone LED flash drive. The move demonstrates NXP's commitment to supporting future environmentally friendly light sources. The NXP UBA3001 provides maximum flash output output most efficiently in battery-powered handsets. Enhanced flash performance improves image quality in poor lighting conditions, thereby significantly improving the user's visual experience.
As LEDs provide a more compact, versatile and environmentally friendly light source, NXP has built a dedicated business team focused on developing high-performance SSL system solutions for use in mobile phone flash, consumer electronics, automotive lighting and general lighting markets. IC. NXP will develop SSL driver solutions like the NXP UBA3301 to accelerate manufacturers' adoption of SSL solutions to quickly deliver low-energy, long-life, small-volume, durable and intelligent lighting products.
The new NXP UBA3001 enhances the image quality of camera phones in poor lighting conditions. High-efficiency drivers that are 90% higher than the full battery voltage range provide maximum flash output with minimal footprint and require only five low-cost external components. The NXP UBA3001 delivers 1 amp of current for a single high-brightness LED. Thanks to its automatic boost and buck conversion, it delivers excellent flash performance regardless of battery charge. Designed for demanding camera phones, the solution offers specialized features such as reduced current during transmit mode, automatic shutdown, true LED shutdown, and full control of current settings for different applications, including flash, flashlight, and "Camera/Video-On" indicator mode.
The NXP UBA3001 has been shown at the 3GSM World Congress. The camera phone LED flash drive will also be on display at the Strategies in Light in San Francisco and Embedded World in Nuremberg, along with NXP's existing line of solutions for LED lighting applications.
The NXP UBA3001 LED flash driver has been evaluated by customers.
